| PROJECT NAME: | News Channel 9 - WTVC |
| PROJECT TYPE: | State-of-the-art news/broadcasting facility |
| CHALLENGE: | When WTVC/News Channel 9 first came to us, they already had plans for a custom, state-of-the-art video and broadcasting facility. But because of the constraints of ever-developing technology, the building also needed special built-in features that would allow technicians to quickly and easily access and change the equipment. In addition to site work, masonary/stone work, concrete and structural steel, Schaerer was responsible for the foundations and the special recessed slabs needed for access flooring. |
| SAFETY: | No loss time accidents |

| PROJECT NAME: | Southern Adventist University – Hickman Science Complex |
| PROJECT TYPE: | 85,000 sf state-of-the-art science teaching/research complex |
| CHALLENGE: | Hickman Science Complex was planned as a top-of-the-line teaching and research facility, including classrooms, lab space, and a greenhouse. In addition to designing ways to meet the complex’s special electrical and HVAC challenges, Schaerer was charged with building in the middle of an active campus while protecting students and traffic, and without interfering with normal campus life. |
| APPROACH USED: | Weekly meetings; coordination with Campus Police to schedule traffic and heavy equipment/material delivery. |

| PROJECT NAME: | TVA – Power Business Center |
| PROJECT TYPE: | Business center adjoining occupied building |
| CHALLENGE: | The plans for TVA’s Power Business Center involved extensive demolition in an extremely populated and difficult location. Challenges with the 30 ft. deep excavation included moving existing high-pressure water lines and gas lines, and avoiding undermining the existing road, force main sewer, and high voltage lines. In addition, the project was fast-tracked, giving us only 14 months for completion |
| APPROACH USED: | By-weekly job site meetings, close collaboration with TVA on design, frequent job site inspections by company officer and on-site project manager. |

| PROJECT NAME: | YMCA – Hamilton Branch |
| PROJECT TYPE: | Complete YMCA complex, including heated pool and exercise facility |
| CHALLENGE: | A highly complicated project, the plans for this new YMCA facility included a wide variety of requirements: while the basic structure was steel and masonry, the complex also called for a built-in-place sauna and steam room, and laminated wood beams and wood decking around the cast-in-place concrete pool. The pool also needed an underground service tunnel and specialized mechanical equipment for exhaust. |
| SAFETY: | No loss time accidents |

| PROJECT NAME: | UNUM-Provident – West Building Additions |
| PROJECT TYPE: | Additions to existing office building in the heart of downtown |
| CHALLENGE: | Location was the biggest challenge in this project, since the site was bounded by busy city streets on all four sides. Schaerer worked to reroute traffic away from heavy machinery and protect employees while entering and leaving the office building directly adjacent to the work site. We also worked with the owners’ requirements for partial occupancy, providing scheduling and coordination for computer main frame switchover. |
| APPROACH USED: | Held weekly progress meetings with architect, owners’ representatives, and sub-contractors. |

| PROJECT NAME: | CVS – Hamill Road |
| PROJECT TYPE: | Prototype for new CVS retail store design |
| CHALLENGE: | The location where the planned CVS prototype store was set to be built had originally been the site of a gasoline service station—resulting in extensive soil contamination that needed to be dealt with before construction could begin. Schaerer handled all the specialized environmental work for this project. |
